Field Trip to Lowry Nature Center

Today was a field trip day for Carolyn and she invited me to go this time!  It is usually Jake that gets to go so I was super excited that she asked me.  Of course, with the crazy cold weather we are having, it was freezing!  I think the actual temps were around -5 while there but I don't know the windchill.  I assume in the -teens.  We went tough all wrapped up in our snow gear and sure enough, we went on a nature walk!  It was a lot of fun and we learned all about the evergreen trees, the buds on the trees and bushes, and hunted for animal tracks.  We spotted deer and raccoon tracks.  We also saw some super fluffy breasted blue jays so I had to ask why.  It turns out that they puff up their feathers in the cold weather to maintain warm.  Cool! It was fun and I felt privileged that she asked me to go :D
Showing the season cycles of a tree
 Finding nuts
 Looking at the tree rings

 Stamping leaves
Stacking and then on our nature walk

 Learning about maple syrup
 Checking out the snapping turtles

 Bus ride back to school!

Will's 6 year appointment

We just got back from Will's 6 year appointment with Dr. Humbert.  Will did great!  He is 45.75" tall (56%) and weighs 45.8 lbs (51%).  Dr. Humbert was super impressed with Will's reading ability! It made me super proud.  Will passed his hearing and vision checks too.  He is just thriving!  Oh - and a Will funny.  He is totally over this cold weather.  He keeps asking to move back to Texas so that we can have warmth and to go to the beach everyday. He is so ready for summer. I love that kid! Here he is in his everyday going to school gear:

Happy 6th Birthday William!

My biggest little guy turns 6 years old today!! Seriously - he is such a fun and enthusiastic little boy who absolutely loves to read and playing video games - especially with his daddy! Will also loves school with his favorites being math and science.  He told me that he can't wait for 1st grade so that he can go to school all day long!  I hope he always keeps that love for learning.
Today was definitely a "spoil Will" day!  He got to pick all the foods he wanted (breakfast: eggs, sausage, and bacon, lunch: hotdogs, dinner: spaghetti) and he got to play Disney Infinity as much as he wanted.  He loved all his birthday gifts too!  He proclaimed this morning "I can't believe I am 6! I am so excited". Will has such a sweet personality!  We love him so much!

His birthday crown from school!
Present time!  He was waiting all day for this!

Happy Birthday Will!
