Paddleboard Date night

The local community ed department offered a date night paddleboard class - how fun!  I totally had to sign us up :D It was awesome! Jake fell in a lot (we think he needed a bigger board) but he figured it out and we had a blast.  The group paddled out a ways and then we all shared cheese curds and sparkling juice.  Then we paddled back and a huge fish almost jumped on my board! I may or may not have yelled - hahahaha! I never fell off - but came close a few times - the waves from the boats were a doozy sometimes.  I definitely want to do it again.  Then we hit up a local bar for a few drinks and just chatted.  It was an great date night :D

Will 's Surgery

It is done and over with.  He had his tonsils and adenoids removed and we sure hope this means he doesn't miss 20 days next year due to being sick all the time! He was so nervous but he made it! He woke up really hard from anesthesia - with lots of screaming and thrashing.  He was not a happy camper, and he swears he remembers it and remembers being so scared and fighting the hugs the nurse was giving him.  When he got back in with us, he was calmed down some but still crying.  He eventually crashed again for almost an hour and woke up better.  We managed to get a popsicle down him and then we were on our way home.  At home, I got him his hydrocodone and he threw it up.  I was hoping that it was just from anesthesia but it turns out, any time I gave the hydrocodone, he threw it up.  It was awful.  So basically, we were unable to get the pain under control for him for a few days.  On Friday night, he started spitting up blood - a lot too. :( The paperwork says I should take him to the ER so I did.  It was traumatic to get the iv in (it took me and an EMT to hold him down to get it done) but once they got him some morphine, he finally relaxed.  Luckily, the blood started clotting on its own so that he didn't have to go back into surgery. The ER doc was keeping in contact with his surgeon throughout the whole night.  After about 3 hours and 2 movies later (oh and 2 rounds of fluids since he was so dehydrated), I managed to get him to eat 2 popsicles.  We weren't able to leave until that was done.  We also got a prescription for oxycodone to hopefully keep his pain under control (which it did). We had a few more rounds of minor bleeding a day or two later, but it was never as much as before, and always stopped.  After about day 8 of surgery, it was like he just woke up a different kid! He was hungry (he hadn't eaten more than a jello a day for the whole time and lost 8 pounds) and was talking and acting more himself.  It was awesome.  I am so hopeful that we will have a much better school year health-wise!

Bugs at the Arb

This years summer exhibit at the Arb is wooden bugs!  I wanted to do some fun stuff before Will's surgery and since the Arb is also an amazing place to play Pokemon Go, we went!  We had so much fun - we walked all the way down to the hedge maze and the kids ran through that thing a ton! We at lunch at the cafe there and then we explored the bugs.  Fun day!

 

 This was cool!  The kids could make the traps open and close to catch flies!

 

Soccer Camp

This week, the kids had soccer camp.  They had so much fun! Carolyn was Team Nigeria and Will was Team England.  They got to play each other each day in a scrimmage and Will's team frequently lost against Carolyn's.  I heard all about it! Carolyn's team also won the World Cup for the week - she was so excited!

Carver Community Night

It was a bust!  It totally started downpouring 15 minutes after we got there.  The kids got to get on the bouncy houses though for a few minutes and we got free ice cream so that was nice.  Oh well!
